An Intercontinental Championship Match Has Been Added to “Payback” (Contains Spoilers)

An Intercontinental Championship Match has been added to “Payback.” Current champion Bad News Barrett will defend his title against former WWE Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam during the event on June 1.

Barrett won the Intercontinental Championship from former champion Big E at “Extreme Rules” on May 4. Barrett defeated Van Dam to win a No. 1 Contenders tournament to get his shot at the title, which he had held in prior years.

Rob Van Dam became No. 1 Contender in similar fashion, competing in a “Beat the Clock” challenge on the May 19 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Now, Van Dam is set to take on Barrett in his first true Intercontinental Championship bout of 2014.

“Payback” airs live on PPV and the WWE Network on June 1.
