Former WWE writer Ed Ferrara currently teaches at Full Sail University, home of “NXT.” Full Sail University is a partner with World Wrestling Entertainment, housing the “NXT” arena, as well as providing students studying production, communications, and so-forth opportunities to intern with the company, and even receive employment upon graduation.

Ferrara, who is most commonly associated with Vince Russo due to their time spent as writers in different wrestling promotions such as WWE and WCW, is currently a Course Director in Creative Writing Research at Full Sail University. His company bio for the school is as follows,

“Ed Ferrara is a television and sitcom writer, producer, and developer whose credits include USA Network’s “Weird Science” and Walt Disney Television’s “Honey I Shrunk The Kids: The TV Show.”

He is perhaps best known for his work in the world of professional wrestling—as a storyline writer and producer, he was one of the primary architects of the World Wrestling Entertainment Network’s “Attitude Era.”

Prior to his arrival at Full Sail, Ed taught writing, television writing, and comedy writing at many different institutions including Columbia College Chicago, the University of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University, and the Second City Training Center.

He holds a bachelor of arts in theater arts and English from Drew University and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program.”

No stranger to controversy, Ferrara not only served as a writer for both WWE and WCW during the “Monday Night War,” but he also appeared on camera in various forms for both companies. Ferrara is most infamously known for his crude and controversial portrayal of WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross in World Championship Wrestling.

The character Ferrara displayed on TV, “Oklahoma,” was an insult to Ross, where he wore JR’s signature outfit and hat, distorted his face to create the appearance of Bells Palsy, and slurred his words with a drawn-out southern accent. You can see Ferrara as Oklahoma on WCW PPV via the WWE Network.

Editor’s Note:
Cool to see Ferrara is still doing SOMETHING involving creative writing. I wonder if ANY of his students are graduating and being plugged into WWE’s creative team. Say what you will about the man, at least he worked with Vince McMahon and Vince Russo during the Attitude Era and knows SOMETHING about being successful.
