Details on Why Naomi Turned Heel

New reports have provided details on why Naomi turned heel during the April 13 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” As previously reported, Naomi attacked Paige after she was eliminated from the No. 1 Contender Divas Battle Royal during the program, effectively “injuring” Paige, allowing the British diva to be written off WWE television.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that WWE made the decision to have Naomi turn heel in response to AJ Lee retiring from professional wrestling and abandoning her WWE contract. According to the report, Lee was supposed to be the one that was to turn on Paige and send her off WWE TV, but Naomi was put in that position once Lee decided to retire from in-ring competition.

Naomi attacked Paige, giving her “internal injuries,” and will likely take her place as the No. 1 Contender to the WWE Divas Championship. Paige eliminated Naomi last to become the No. 1 Contender, winning a shot at Nikki Bella’s butterfly title at “Extreme Rules” on April 26. However, Paige is heading off to film her role in WWE Studios’ upcoming motion picture, “Santa’s Little Helper.”

This leaves an opening in the Divas title match-up, and with Naomi pinning Bella two weeks in a row following WrestleMania 31, she is most likely next in line for the shot.
