Crew for Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Challenge” Goes On Strike

The Motion Picture Editor’s Guild announced on July 22 that the crew for WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s CMT Network reality show, “Broken Skull Challenge,” has gone on strike. According to the announcement, the crew left work in hopes of winning an IATSE contract.

MPEG made the announcement via Twitter, saying,

Deadline.com reports the following on the situation,

“The union has just thrown the WWE Hall Of Famer’s reality show to the mat. Demanding an IATSE contract, the crew of CMT’s Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge has walked off the job this morning. Representing both production and postproduction workers on the show, the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild and IATSE are putting up a picket line outside the Laurel Canyon Boulevard offices of series producer 51 Minds Entertainment.

“All members, prospective members, and other postproduction professionals are instructed to refrain from rendering service to this production for the duration of the work stoppage,” said the Editors Guild today. The crew members are seeking health and pension benefits and other measures of a union contract.

Having debuted on July 6 2014, Broken Skull Challenge has run for two seasons and was in the process of putting together a third run.

This comes just under a month after the union reached an agreement with the producers of Marriage Boot Camp that sees the postproduction and production staff of the show now under an IATSE contract. Thinkfactory Media and the union made their deal after less than a day of picketing of the production company’s LA offices. That contract was the latest is series of unscripted success’ that IATSE has had over the last two years.”

Editor’s Note:

Welp. Bring Austin back for a WWE Network podcast with The Undertaker then.
