In the second part of his appearance on Colt Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast, CM Punk calls Vince McMahon’s apology a publicity stunt. As previously reported, McMahon was part of a live special edition of “The Steve Austin Show” on Dec. 1, in which he apologized to Punk for “firing him on his wedding day.”
Punk claims that if McMahon was sincere in his apology, that he would have called or texted him instead of issuing his wishes on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast. Punk went on to say that there is no way him receiving his termination notice on June 13, the day of his wedding, was a coincidence.
Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, had asked for time off for the wedding and their honeymoon, giving the company the dates of said events. Punk feels that the move was cold and calculated by McMahon and Triple H, who had texted Punk on June 11 to see if they could have a conversation. As heard in part one of Punk’s interview, he told Triple H that he would talk, for as long as he wanted to, the day he returned from his honeymoon. Instead, he received his pink slip via FedEx on June 13.
It should be noted that June 12 was the infamous “firing day” in 2014 which saw a slew of superstars get terminated, such as Brodus Clay, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins, Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre, Evan Bourne, JTG, Aksana, and Marc Harris. Punk claims the papers were marked “June 12,” which means he was let go on the same day as all of these other superstars.
However, WWE acknowledged the release of all of these stars except Punk, which leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
