A new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided a backstage update on Sting signing with WWE. According to the report, what was once believed to be an imminent deal has now become less that certain.
As we previously reported, multiple reports regarding Sting’s status with the company have been notable since January. While it was believed, especially around WrestleMania XXX season that Sting would be signing along a dotted line very soon, an official contract has yet to be penned by the former WCW and TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Now it seems like the company and Sting are at a stand still. Some wonder if this is because of the state of the Undertaker and his current status. Initially, the plan (as rumored for years) was to have Sting come in and work one match with ‘Taker at WrestleMania 31 before retiring from in-ring competition for good. However, with the Undertaker’s health in question, and the ending of the Streak, these plans may have been scrapped entirely.
According to the report, WWE executives believed that Sting was going to come in and work 100 dates for the company, which is the deal that Sting constant talks about “almost taking” back in 2011. He, however, chose to take TNA’s year-long extension working fewer dates than WWE wanted him to work. Fast-forward past two more TNA extensions, and Sting can only recently been seen appearing on WWE programming talking about the late WWE Hall of Famer the Ultimate Warrior.
Editor’s Note:
So here we are again. NO one knows what’s going on with Sting. Will he sign a Legends deal or not? Will he work one match or not? We’re the closest we’ve EVER been to seeing Sting in a WWE ring, but will it FINALLY happen? The only thing that’s for sure about Sting…is that I’ll believe it when I see it.
