A new report from PWInsider.com has provided some backstage news on why WWE officials were at odds with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper prior to his latest appearance on “Monday Night Raw.” Piper apparently refused to sign a WWE “no compete clause” saying that he would not appear on any other program until “WWE Legends’ House,” a reality show produced by WWE which features Piper, had aired.
“WWE Legends’ House” was filmed in January 2012, and to this date, Jan. 14 2014, has yet to air on any television network or online medium. It has since been announced that the program will air exclusively on the upcoming WWE Network, which will launch in North America on Feb. 24 at 11:15 P.M. ET. However, Piper did not want to be held back from making televised appearances for two years, and this is why he didn’t sign the contract.
Piper’s biggest reason for not signing a clause that would keep him off of other wrestling or MMA related broadcasts is because his son is an MMA fighter, and Piper has outwardly expressed his desire to assist in his son’s career as much as possible. Piper wanted to make sure his name and likeness would still be available for use in case he needed to appear on TV with his son during a MMA competition. However, his refusal to sign the WWE contract kept the legend from appearing in the company’s latest video game endeavor, WWE 2K14.
The animosity between WWE and Piper has since been alleviated, and Piper is expected to appear (in some form or fashion) at the thirtieth anniversary of WWE’s biggest annual PPV event, WrestleMania on April 6. The company has expressed its interest in using Piper at WrestleMania XXX, and Piper has even been reportedly asking for a match with Hulk Hogan, whether it is a tag team or a singles bout.
