The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some backstage news on the Undertaker’s current status. According to the report, Undertaker is still recovering from his WrestleMania XXX match with Brock Lesnar, and it is still virtually unknown if he will be returning to active competition or not.
As we previously reported, Lesnar ended the Phenom’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania by the orders of Vince McMahon. It was reported initially that McMahon made the call just hours before WrestleMania XXX went live. However, some within McMahon’s “inner circle” are now saying that he didn’t make the decision to end the streak at the last second, but that he simply waited until the final hour to inform those that needed to know.
Undertaker suffered a concussion early on in the match, leaving Lesnar in charge of calling and executing the bout. The ending of the streak shocked every fan in attendance for WrestleMania XXX, but also most of the talent and officials in the back. McMahon only informed those that needed to know that the Undertaker would be losing that match.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter claims that majority of those within the company believe that having Undertaker’s streak end was bad for business. However, no one will come out publicly and say that. If Undertaker returns to compete at WrestleMania 31, then the call will be viewed as the wrong one. If he’s completely finished with in-ring competition, than some believe it was the right thing to do. Some will always believe that the Undertaker should have never lost on a WrestleMania stage.
Editor’s Note:
I would just like to know when we’ll get to hear from Undertaker about all of this. Can we go ahead and get a 3 hour documentary about the man now? Please?
