The latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio” has provided some backstage news on Uhaa Nation’s NXT debut. As previously reported, Nation recently signed to WWE’s developmental territory, and is slated to begin appearing on the “NXT” WWE Network program very soon.
During the May 6 edition of “NXT,” Nation appeared in a segment with NXT General Manager William Regal. However, at no time during the backstage segment, or in the vignette they aired following the segment featuring Nation, did they give the superstar a name.
Dave Meltzer claims this is because the company has yet to decide on what stage name they want to use for Nation. Sesugh Uhaa is his real name, yet he has gone by “Uhaa Nation” throughout most of his career in the independents.
The company has yet to settle on a new name for Uhaa, which is why at the end of the vignette, the text on the screen merely said, “Coming Soon,” with no name attached. The interesting note is that when WWE signed Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens), Fergal Devitt (Finn Bálor), and KENTA (Hideo Itami), they announced that they had signed them using their previous names in the announcements.
Itami and Bálor were allowed to explain where their stage names came from on camera, while Owens explained that he chose his name after his son and the late Owen Hart in an interview on WWE.com. With Uhaa, the company is just promoting him as a new nameless superstar who’s excited to be chasing his dream to become a champion in NXT.
Editor’s Note:
Yeah, I noticed that they didn’t have a name for him while I was watching “NXT” on Wednesday. You’d think they would have SOMETHING for him by now. I just hope they don’t promote him as a “smiley-faced, goody-two-shoes” babyface. He was smiling WAY too much in that vignette. We don’t need another Rocky Maivia misfire.
