PWInsider.com has provided some backstage news on Fandango’s face turn that began during the April 13 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” During the program, Fandango came out to his heel entrance theme, alongside of Rose Mendes. However, after losing to Stardust pretty quickly in their match, Fandango appeared to “dump” Mendes and turn face.
The report claims that WWE has wanted to turn Fandango babyface after WrestleMania, and decided to do so in London, England, as his babyface entrance theme, “ChaChaLaLa,” made it to No. 1 on the UK iTunes music charts the week following WrestleMania 29, when “Fandangoing” became a thing. The International crowd that was present for WrestleMania 29 and the edition of “Monday Night Raw” that followed the event gravitated to the theme, dancing and humming it as they left the arena, causing a viral Internet sensation.
WWE wanted to capitalize on “ChaChaLaLa”s popularity in the UK, and decided to turn Fandango babyface at the O2 Arena on April 13. While what Fandango’s upcoming program looks like is uncertain, expect him to appear as a face using “ChaChaLaLa” during the April 14 tapings for “Smackdown” in the UK as well.
Fandango has not yet held any championship gold in WWE and could begin working towards entering into the Intercontinental Championship picture. However, with Daniel Bryan holding that strap, and John Cena holding the United States title, both belts have been elevated to a higher prestige than just “hot potato” mid-card titles like they were over the last six years.
Where Fandango goes from here is the question, though it’s pretty likely “Fandangoing” may lead him to better things, or a plateau.
Editor’s Note:
Look…if they don’t get Fandango into a meaningful feud soon…elevate his character…he’s out the door come cut season in June.
