The latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio” has provided some rumored backstage news on The Ascension possibly being used with Bray Wyatt on WWE TV soon. As previously reported, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan have been set “free” from Wyatt, leaving room for “the Eater of Worlds” to now “fix” other “lost” superstars in order to send them out into the world on a proverbial “hunt.”
Character-building back-stories, and their “freedom” issued by Wyatt, have been the focus of vignettes for Harper and Rowan shown on recent television episodes. These video packages have been promoting upcoming singles pushes for both men.
The rumor claims that WWE officials have discussed bringing The Ascension up from NXT to the WWE main roster for months. However, their debut may be far different creatively than originally planned. With Harper and Rowan unfettered from Bray Wyatt, The Ascension may be two superstars that step directly into the void the two big men will be leaving in The Wyatt Family.
It has been reported for weeks that the major players in NXT, such as Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Tyson Kidd, Tyler Breeze, and The Ascension, have been traveling with the WWE main roster and could be used on WWE television more in the future. It seems as if WWE is seriously considering adding the team of The Ascension to the mix, just in a different way than many people would have expected.
Editor’s Note:
I could see The Ascension having their first match as active competitors on “Monday Night Raw,” only to have Wyatt come out and lure them back through the curtain. Then we’ll get vignettes of Wyatt “converting” the two superstars into Wyatt followers over the span of a few weeks. It would probably look reminiscent of The Undertaker’s conversion of Mideon, Viscera, and the Acolytes from the Ministry’s conception in 1999.
