It looks like Stardust may be flying off into space…forever.
Stardust is coming to an end.
— Stardust (@StardustWWE) January 25, 2016
Cody Rhodes went on a losing streak while teaming with his brother, Goldust, in the summer of 2014. He told “The Bizarre One” to find another partner, but after many unsuccessful attempts at recruiting a replacement for Rhodes, he then debuted the Stardust character. They would eventually find success, winning the tag team championships at “Night of Champions” later that year.
It has been previously reported that WWE has teased this gimmick change several times. The first was after Rhodes’ father, the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, passed away suddenly in the summer of 2015. Cody, however, stuck to his guns and explained his actions in a lengthy blog post, that he is fan of comic books, and was in a potential feud with “The Green Arrow” Stephen Amell at the time.
Their feud escalated over the coming weeks, with the two would eventually settling their score at “SummerSlam” in 2015. At the event, Amell teamed with Neville to defeat the team of Stardust and King Barrett.
A second gimmick changed was teased in November of last year, after fans would consistently chant “Cody, Cody, Cody.”
Editor’s Note:
I hope that we see the return of Cody Rhodes tonight on “Monday Night Raw.” While the Stardust character was entertaining, I feel it hinders the true potential that Rhodes has as a competitor. He is a naturally gifted athlete, and is capable of being a part of compelling and meaningful storylines, as was shown when ‘Legacy’ feuded with the McMahon family.
