However, I don’t think anyone saw this one coming.
In a match that should air next week on “Impact,” Del Rio, who is using the name Alberto El Patron, challenged Lashley for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. However, there was a goofy finish, and Patron defeated Lashley to become the new world champion.
Some pictures have surfaced on Twitter showing the events that led to this outcome:

This comes as somewhat of a shocker, as it was previously reported that TNA had stopped pursuing to sign El Patron to a contract.
El Patron was last seen on WWE television on the August 16, 2016 episode of “Smackdown Live,” where he lost to John Cena. He was released by the company shortly afterwards; partially due to his multiple violations of the their wellness policy.
Editor’s Note:
At this point, what difference does it even make? I can’t imagine that this is smart business decision for TNA based on El Patron’s track record, but at this point, what does the company have to lose?
