This is only a rumor, so take it for what it’s worth. It had been previously reported that Mustafa Ali had requested his release from his WWE contract in order to pursue other projects.
According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, WWE has denied Ali’s request for his release to be granted.
WWE does not plan to grant Mustafa Ali's request for release, Fightful Select has learned.

Ali has been ready to return to WWE since the beginning of December, following one week off for the birth of his third child. He has not appeared on WWE programming since the October 29 episode of Smackdown, where he lost a match to Drew McIntyre.
The statement that was released stated: “I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling. Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE. Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”
We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available to us.
Editor’s Opinion:
I can’t figure this one out. WWE has released over 80 superstars in the last year, many of whom wanted to stay with the company. Why would they not want to let someone go who doesn’t want to be there? If they are really worried about saving money, this is another way to do it.
