Tonight, at “Clash of Champions,” Roman Reigns defeated Rusev to become the new WWE United States Champion. This will Reigns’ first reign with the title. The finish came when he hit a spear on Rusev after powering out of the accolade at the end of the match.
Rusev had held the United States Championship for 127 days, after winning it at “Extreme Rules” back in May of this year.
The feud between Reigns and Rusev began on August 8 of this year, when Reigns interrupted Rusev and Lana’s celebration of their wedding ceremony on “Monday Night Raw.” The two were scheduled to compete at “SummerSlam” to settle their differences, but they just brawled around the ring area without allowing the official to start the contest.
Editor’s Note:
I immediately saw on Twitter that people were very upset about Reigns winning the title. The bottom line is that Reigns once again proved why he is one of the top competitors in the company. Him and Rusev put on another great match, and if WWE is trying to build prestige to the midcard titles again, why not put it on a former world champion, and a superstar who is both credible and believable as a tough competitor?
