In the main event of tonight’s “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II” event on the WWE Network, Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Samoa Joe to capture the NXT Championship. This is Nakamura’s first run as champion.
The finish came when Nakamura delivered a second Kinshasa kick to Joe after kicking out of the Muscle Buster. He would proceed to cover Joe to win the title.
Joe had been the NXT Champion since April 21 of this year, when he won the title from Finn Bálor at a live event in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Before the match began, Nakamura entered the ring accompanied by a fantastic live violinist playing his theme; first as a solo, and then along with the full track.
There was a scary moment near the end of the match where Joe appeared to be writhing in pain following the first kinshasa kick by Nakamura. After the match, you could see the referee throwing up the ‘X’ sign, meaning that medical attention was immediately required. Social media has been running rampant that Joe’s jaw may be broken.
We’ll continue to monitor that story as more information becomes available to us.
Editor’s Note:
I think that Nakamura’s entrance music is more over than half the roster. Seriously though, it was an incredible contest, which capped off an amazing night of wrestling. “NXT Takeover” events are always very special evenings, and this one was no different. Congratulations to Shinsuke Nakamura on his first major championships in WWE. YOU DESERVE IT!!!
