In a shocking announcement made yesterday, Matt Hardy has vacated the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, days after winning it from EC3 at “Bound For Glory.” After the match, EC3 filed an injunction with Dixie Carter which prevents Matt hardy from appearing on TNA television, and as a result, Hardy felt that he had no choice but to relinquish the title to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
EC3 has been the TNA World Heavyweight Champion since July 1, when he won the title from Kurt Angle on an episode of “Impact.” In addition, he had been undefeated until “Bound For Glory,” and even though he was never pinned in the title match, his record still shows an official loss.
This championship victory was Hardy’s first in TNA. He is a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion as well.
Editor’s Note:
I have mixed feelings about this storyline. While I love what EC3 can do in the ring as well as his character, Hardy is still one of the finest competitors in professional wrestling today. This was his first opportunity to be the face of a major wrestling company, and it has been taken away. We’ll see where this story goes.
