In this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirms these rumors and elaborates further on the plans for “The Deadman.”
According to the report, Vince McMahon has wanted to make the match between Reigns and The Undertaker for quite a while. There would be two scenarios that could play out with the result of this match.
The first would be that Reigns defeats The Undertaker, and beings a lengthy heel run as a “passing of the torch.” The other would be The Undertaker defeating Reigns, which would be seen as both humanizing Reigns, as well as him receiving endorsement by The Undertaker.
Either way, “The Deadman” was in a lot of pain during this year’s “Royal Rumble” match, and so this year’s Wrestlemania might be last time that this match could be a possibility.
Editor’s Note:
The groundwork for this match was clearly set up with Reigns eliminating The Undertaker in the “Royal Rumble” match. I would be completely OK with these two going at it, as Reigns is one of the best workers that WWE has, and could give us a quality match with one of the most iconic performers of all time.
