The injury bug strikes again. According to a new report from WWE.com, John Cena has suffered an ankle injury and his status for this weekend’s 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view is up in the air.
The injury occurred during last week’s episode of Raw, where Cena was in a match with Finn Bálor, Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre for the right to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.
You can see a clip of the match below:
The injury supposedly occurred when McIntyre had Cena locked in an ankle submission move; you can see a full video report on the injury below:
Balor would win the match, and earn the right to face Lesnar for the title at the Royal Rumble. The reason this match took place is because Braun Strowman had his title opportunity taken away by Mr. McMahon earlier in the show.
Editor’s Opinion:
Obviously this sucks for Cena, but he probably wasn’t going to win the Rumble match anyway. I don’t think that this will hurt too much and he’ll be fine in time for WrestleMania.
