Last night, UFC president Dana White appeared on “Inside the NBA” for an interview, following TNT’s coverage of the Eastern Conference Finals matchup, between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
White said that Conor McGregor has signed an agreement to fight undefeated boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The contest would be a regular boxing match.
“The McGregor side is done, I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now,” White said. “I’ve got one side done. If we can come to a deal (with Mayweather) the fight will happen.”
McGregor confirmed White’s claims in an interview with TheMacLife.com:
“It is an honour to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said.
“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”
The terms of the deal have not been announced. It had been previously reported that Mayweather would come out of retirement just fight McGregor.
Editor’s Note:
I personally have no interest in this at all, but I know a lot of people do. Two of the biggest egos in the world; since Mayweather worked peacefully with WWE in the past, I’m going to root for him. Maybe it’ll shut McGregor up, after his rants against the company last summer.
