The following announcement was made on both WWE.com, as well as the company’s official Twitter account:
BREAKING: WWE has suspended Alberto Del Rio for violation of company talent wellness policy. https://t.co/tGykC4PtLx pic.twitter.com/p3cP9bf6lw
— WWE (@WWE) August 17, 2016
This is Del Rio’s first violation of the wellness policy. The suspension takes place beginning tomorrow, Thursday, August 18.
Del Rio’s suspension continues a line of recent performers who have been suspended for the same offense. The most notable one of late has been Roman Reigns, who was suspended on June 21. However, both Adam Rose and Konnor had also violated the policy in April of this year.
It had been previously reported that there are several superstars who are upset with the fact that Brock Lesnar seems to be exempt from undergoing tests under WWE’s wellness policy, following the reports that he had failed two drug tests by the USADA.
Editor’s Note:
While this is not good for Del Rio, it honestly doesn’t make too much of a big deal on “Smackdown Live.” He isn’t really involved in any major storylines, and was last seen in a losing effort to John Cena on last night’s show. We will continue to monitor this story, and post any updates as they become available to us.
