It had been previously reported that WWE will be holding their first ever all-women’s pay-per-view, Evolution, on Sunday, October 28 of this year.
According to the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are some interesting reasons for the time and location of this event. While they will be competing against both Sunday Night Football and the World Series, the feeling is that the numbers will still be strong in both ticket sales and number of people that will be watching live.
This is due to the fact that this is such a historic event, and people will want to check it out.
It should also be noted that there was speculation that WWE was going to do another show in Saudi Arabia in November, and doing this show could diffuse the criticism that WWE would get if they did another event without having any women perform.
One other major caveat is that WWE now has Ronda Rousey to promote Evolution. Not only can she make appearances on talk shows easier than any male athlete on the roster, but she also spearheaded the first UFC show where women appeared. Rousey was the draw, and the show was a tremendous success that the company built on from there.
Editor’s Opinion:
All of these facts make sense, but regardless of the timing, this is still an awesome event. Women’s wrestling has come so far in the past few years, and with the potential of interactions of stars from Raw, Smackdown Live, NXT and the legends of the past, Evolution is going to be an event you won’t want to miss!
