If you’re a wrestling media collector, you are in for a bad time in the coming year; it does look like the WWE is scaling back their DVD and Blu-ray production moving forward.
It was reported that the WWE was releasing Seth Rollins: Building the Architect on the two home video formats in May. However, it looks like at this time, that plan has been scrapped completely. WWEDVD.co.uk–the distributor for WWE DVDs and Blu-rays in the United Kingdom–took to Twitter to announce that the release has been canned due to the US distributor cutting back on the Blu-rays, which affects multiple markets.
The tweet has since been deleted, which is certainly a suspicious move.
This is not the only proposed release that is affected. A March 21st release of WrestleMania Monday on DVD has also been scrapped as well.
Whether these releases will see the light of day in the future–either in physical or digital format–remains to be seen. However, this type of move cannot bode well for other future releases, and could quite possibly be a bad move with fans who have massive collections of these VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray releases and want to expand it their collection. Here’s hoping production ramps up again soon.
