While working out with Mark Bell in Bell’s “Power Project” YouTube video, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena was egged on in regards to turning heel in the immediate future.
Cena reiterated that it will “never happen” and that he’ll only do what management tells him to do.
In a recent report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, it was revealed that Cena’s merchandise is outselling the rest of the roster combined. With Daniel Bryan injured and CM Punk gone from WWE, the spotlight shines larger on Cena with each passing day, both in the ring and behind the scenes.
It was also noted that WWE Live Events featuring Cena average $60,000 more than shows without him. A face Cena makes perfect financial sense for the company.
It makes a character change more difficult to pull off because those backstage are nervous over ruining what they currently have in that regard.
Cena will get his chance at redemption at WWE “Night of Champions” when he faces Brock Lesnar in a rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Editor’s Note
A heel John Cena would create more compelling television, but there are so many other factors involved that makes the change merely a pipe dream. There’s no definitive No. 2 face that could carry the load should Cena become a bad guy. Dean Ambrose has a ways to go, Roman Reigns is a work in progress and we still don’t know how much more recovery time Daniel Bryan needs.
