Kevin Owens has captured his first championship win on WWE’s main roster since moving up full-time from the NXT brand.

At WWE “Night of Champions” Sunday night, Owens defeated Ryback to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion.

Owens, who had the Houston crowd squarely in his corner, spent a majority of the bout working on the left arm and shoulder of his opponent.

The finish came when Owens raked the eyes of Ryback when his back was turned to the referee. He then rolled him up for the three-count, winning the title to a thunderous  ovation.

Editor’s Note

This was long overdue for the Intercontinental Championship. With all due respect to Ryback, he was simply not the man to elevate that belt to places it needs to be. That’s not to say Owens will go where Ryback couldn’t, but I like is odds a heck of a lot more. Terrific match for Owens. Hope this is the start of a long, prosperous reign.
