The relationship between ESPN and World Wrestling Entertainment has never been stronger, with the U.S.-based global cable and satellite sports television channel upping its coverage of professional wrestling to meet the demand of its viewers.
Former WWE announcer and current “SportsCenter” anchor Jonathan Coachman is teasing a major announcement for Tuesday on what may be the network’s coverage of WrestleMania 32 this year:
You have been asking for years and we are about to take another step. So excited. 48 hours. #wwe #joinus #letshavefun.
— Jonathan Coachman (@TheCoachESPN) October 12, 2015
Remember we want to serve fans anytime anywhere. Athletes are @WWE fans. Superstars are sports fan. #cometogether https://t.co/np1rb5igIA — Jonathan Coachman (@TheCoachESPN) October 12, 2015
While the announcement could certainly be about something entirely unrelated to the big pay-per-view, it should be noted that travel packages go on sale the same day.
Coachman recently attended WWE “SummerSlam” at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for ESPN.
“The biggest network in America for credibility in sports and entertainment is ESPN, so the best way to make your product credible is to be on ESPN. I’m proud of the fact that I am the liaison for the WWE.”
Editor’s Note
The ESPN-WWE connection adds more credibility to company/industry which will always have a stigma of being too violent. If the network decides to work WrestleMania 32 next year, that can only be a positive for both parties.
