Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson has confirmed through his Twitter account that he’ll be starring as Black Adam in DC Comics Shazam superhero movie.

Shazam possesses the powers of six mythological figures – Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury. The first letters of all their names spells out Shazam.
Black Adam is Shazam’s long-time nemesis, having similar powers of his own. It’s mentioned in the comics (although the story has been changed several times) that Egyptian Gods blessed Adam with unlimited stamina, strength, super-speed, wisdom, courage and the ability to fly.
Rather than play a villain, Adam will be more of an anti-hero searching to clear his name.
Johnson had been rumored to be a part of the project for several months, but which role he’d play was very much a mystery.
Darren Lemke, the man behind Shrek Forever After and Jack the Giant Slayer, will reportedly write the script.
Shazam will be one of several DC Comic films that will eventually intertwine, similar to what Marvel has done with their Avengers franchise. An official release date hasn’t been announced, although it’s widely expected to be out in either 2016 or 2017.
Editor’s Note
As Batista was for his Guardians of the Galaxy role, Johnson seems extremely enthusiastic and humble about landing this part. Superhero movies always do big box office numbers. Shazam should be no exception.
