Sasha Banks is at the forefront of WWE’s “Women’s Revolution.” The self-proclaimed “Boss” currently holds the RAW Women’s Championship, and she and Charlotte have really elevated women’s wrestling with their epic matches, including the first women’s Hell in a Cell match. However, everybody has to start somewhere, and it was four years ago that Banks made her debut in NXT.
Yes, it was December 12, 2012 that Banks first debuted on NXT television, losing to Paige. This was, in many ways, literally the debut of Banks, because the woman who was born Mercedes Kaestner-Varnado didn’t adopt the name “Sasha Banks” until she joined NXT. It wouldn’t be until January 23, 2013 that Banks would pick up her first win, but she was on her way. Later in 2013 she would turn heel and debut her “Boss” character, and finally Banks was on her way to the success she enjoys today.
It’s a reminder of how wrestlers don’t tend to be overnight successes. Even Banks, who at 24 is arguably the most popular women’s wrestler in the world, started as just another face in the crowd, losing to a more established wrestler. To celebrate the four years since her inauspicious debut, here’s some videos of Banks in action back in her NXT days. Congrats to Banks for all her success. Just don’t play her any Christmas music.
