Monday’s latest edition of RAW is pulling out a couple huge games from the past to try and get the audience stirred up. Shawn Michaels, the Heartbreak Kid himself, will be appearing, and The Undertaker is “rumored” to be making an appearance.
Since this is professional wrestling, we can safely surmise that “rumored” means it’s going to happen. Obviously, there are fans that are excited about this. The WWE certainly is happy to trot out these legends to score a few brownie points with the audience. In the end, though, is it a good thing?
You can forgive the WWE for wanting to play a trump card or two this Monday. RAW will be going up against the college football championship game between Alabama and Clemson.
If you want to try and get fans to turn over to RAW, or to keep from flipping channels, you’ve got to bring them something big. Having Roman Reigns take on Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho again probably isn’t going to cut it.

However, this ratings grab doesn’t really do anything to get at the numerous flaws of RAW in its current iteration. Of course, one of the issues is that the show is probably too long at three hours, and having HBK and The Undertaker show up will help kill some time. You can’t do that every week, though. Bringing in huge names is but a temporary reprieve, and if it doesn’t help bring in more viewers, than it’s all for naught as well. It would probably serve the WWE better to make the most of their main roster on RAW than to rely on gimmicks. Then again, this is a show that already dedicates a lot of time to Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Maybe The Undertaker and Michaels are just taking that fascination with part-time legends to its logical extreme.
