One of the most memorable stadiums that housed a WrestleMania pay-per-view is unfortunately no longer. The Pontiac Silverdome, which hosted WrestleMania 3, was imploded recently due to noticeable aging conditions. According to the mayor of Pontiac, Deirdre Waterman, “We didn’t want it sitting here as a blighted property, because it’s going to be redeveloped, which is the best use for this valuable piece of property,” USA Today reports.

The 42-year-old venue held the largest WrestleMania crowd for a number of years, and showcased arguably the biggest main event in WrestleMania history, Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant.

The first attempt to implode the stadium was botched, and was widely blamed on wiring that affected the detonation.

However, the second attempt was successful, and the historic venue is now demolished.

The site will now be better presented for potential redevelopment. While the venue was largely used for sporting attractions from 1975 to 2002, it became sporadically used, following the Lions’ move to Ford Field in nearby Detroit.
