As we previously reported, Cesaro suffered an eye injury on the June 30 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” Despite being cleared to compete, there is a growing concern about eye poke injuries being more common in WWE, according to the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
It reports that at least one top star in WWE believes the cause for the increase in eye injuries is due to WWE pushing its talent to be too aggressive. The notion has led to more workers rushing, resulting in sloppy execution in terms of being safe and careful. This work style is also linked to more potato shots, black eyes, concussions, and separated shoulders.
Additionally, it is noted that most of WWE’s talent is attempting to miss with his or her strikes. The style sees the performer kick or strike in incredibly fast fashion, narrowly avoiding the opponent. With some talents rushing through this tactic, the near misses have not missed, resulting in concussions.
Besides Cesaro, Bad News Barrett has also suffered one of the aforementioned injuries. Barrett suffered a separated shoulder during a “Smackdown” taping in late June. He was unable to compete at “Money in the Bank,” and was then stripped of his Intercontinental Championship. Following shoulder surgery, Barrett will be out of the ring for months, a huge blow to the man who many thought would win the traditional Money in the Bank Ladder match.
Editor’s Note
If true, that sucks. I could only imagine how Barrett would feel, if the aggressive style did indeed lead to his shoulder injury.
