With WrestleMania 31 around the corner, WWE has also been putting emphasis on its developmental brand, NXT, during its biggest week of the year. WrestleMania Axxess has featured matches between various NXT stars, in addition to a tournament which Hideo Itami won to join the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
Additionally, on Friday, March 27, at San Jose State University, NXT held its most-attended show in its history, a house show that brought in almost 5,000 people. The event was a huge success, with the raucous crowd being overly entertained and hot throughout the entire show. It even saw Hideo Itami utilize the “Go to Sleep,” his patented move, for the first time in NXT.
“The Chairman” Vince McMahon was backstage for the show, and according to PWInsider, thoroughly enjoyed it. Within WWE, it was even said that McMahon loved the hot crowd, getting a kick out of some its chants.
The live event was originally scheduled to go two hours, ending at midnight. However, it would actually end more towards 1 a.m. PST, going almost three hours. A report from F4WOnline noted that there is speculation in WWE that it was Vince McMahon who allowed the show to run more than its allotted time. McMahon reportedly told the NXT crew to take an extra hour, saying he would pay any additional union costs for going late.

Awesome. NXT’s continued growth is impressive and really good news for the wrestling industry.
