WWE taped its first edition of “Smackdown” coming out of WrestleMania 31 on Tuesday, March 31. The show, which emanated from Fresno, California, will air on Thursday, April 2. Within it, WWE announced the presumed main event for its next pay-per-view, “Extreme Rules,” reports PWInsider.
In a backstage segment between on-screen WWE Director of Operations Kane and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, it was revealed that Rollins will make his first title defense against Randy Orton at “Extreme Rules.” “The Viper” defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31, only to see Rollins become WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the main event, after he cashed in his Money in the Bank Briefcase.
On WWE programming, Randy Orton had been badgering The Authority with a title shot request because of how last year’s WrestleMania transpired. Orton went in to WrestleMania XXX as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, only to lose the title in a Triple Threat match. What angered Orton was the fact that he was not involved in the match’s finish. Daniel Bryan won the title after making Batista submit to the “Yes Lock.”
Editor’s Note
This was the logical move, considering Orton beat Rollins clean at WrestleMania 31. This should be a good match, which I expect closes “Extreme Rules.”
