Following WWE’s decision to release 11 of its personnel, it was reported that the company may very well be making some cuts on the administrative side of things. A recent report by PWTorch has confirmed the previous report, noting that Vince McMahon fired WWE head writer Jay Gibson. Gibson’s release came the day after WWE’s releases of its in-ring talent, Friday, June 13.
Because Gibson’s release occurred on June 13, the June 16 edition of “Monday Night Raw” was the first edition of WWE programming without him. Due to his absence, it is said that the edition of “Monday Night Raw” was one with some of Vince McMahon’s favorite segments. For example, the segment seeing Vickie Guerrero puking on Stephanie McMahon was Vince McMahon’s idea.
The report also talked further on previous reports that WWE is looking to make substantial budget cuts, signifying more talent cuts in the future. The website noted that Vince McMahon is looking at reducing the company’s payroll, and will spearhead changes for the budget cuts.
Editor’s Note
The reports of substantial budget cuts were definitely frightening to begin with. Now learning that WWE’s head writer was also fired, continues to make WWE’s financial situation appear worse. However, with the launch of the WWE Network, perhaps such financial loss should have been expected to happen. Similar to WWE’s beginnings of the “Attitude Era,” prior to it, the company was not in a great situation in the early and mid 1990s. While WWE will likely never draw in as much viewership as it did in that era, perhaps WWE’s financial struggles at the moment will lead to a sharp rebound, putting the company in its best financial position in its existence.
