While the Dec. 8 edition of “Monday Night Raw” marked the “go-home” show to WWE’s December pay-per-view, “TLCS,” it also served as WWE’s annual Slammy Awards show. The show was hosted by actor and comedian Seth Green, and featured a number of special guests appear to present awards. The most notable guest presenters were Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.

With WWE pushing the Slammy Awards as something that is all determined by the WWE Universe’s vote, there have been many skeptics claiming that the voting for the 2014 Slammy Awards was “rigged.” Two Slammy Award winners stood out, which in turn, led to these claims of the whole awards show being a sham.

First, the Match of the Year Slammy was presented to Dolph Ziggler for the Team Cena vs. Team Authority match at “Survivor Series.” Some fans thought there were better matches than that one, and that it only won to benefit Ziggler. By receiving the Slammy, it gave the currently red hot superstar an opportunity to cut a passionate promo towards the fans.

Later in the night, Roman Reigns won the Slammy for Superstar of the Year, which caused the most outburst. Some fans didn’t think Reigns deserved the award, and that it was WWE who chose Reigns, not the fans.

Despite these prevalent claims from doubters, PWInsider published a report which somewhat refuted their claims. According to the website, the 2014 Slammy Awards were “100 percent legitimate,” in terms of the voting count. The WWE App reportedly garnered a lot of traffic for voting, and held up throughout the night. Though, it was also noted that WWE very well could have had people continuously vote for a certain choice to influence the outcome.

Editor’s Note

Maybe the voting count was legitimate, but it was WWE who served as the majority of the votes. Though, I could actually see the voting process being legitimate, only because the “IWC” and less casual viewers are unlikely to vote on these kind of things.
