This week, WWE CFO George Barrios was part of a presentation at the Global Technology Media & Telecom conference in Boston. PWInsider has provided a detailed report on Barrios’ words, which for the most part talked about the WWE Network.
Below are the highlights of Barrios’ talk of the WWE Network:
“The Monday Night War” original program will debut at some point “in the fall” on the WWE Network.
Going with the assumption that WWE will lose all its pay-per-view revenue, the WWE Network will need somewhere between 1.3-to-1.4 million subscribers just to break even. The company believes that it can reach somewhere between 2-to-4 million subscribers across the globe within two-to-three years.
On March 30, WWE had about 500,000 subscribers to the network. Come WrestleMania XXX, the company had around 667,000 subscribers. Going forward, it will announce the number of subscribers quarterly.
Apple receives 30% of the pay for any subscriptions through the corporation’s devices. WWE has made similar deals with other platforms such as Roku.
After going through some rough patches following the launch of the WWE Network, WWE now monitors quality “by the second.”
There has been some discussion about running advertisements on the network, but nothing has been finalized.
WWE does not maintain the credit card information of subscribers. The process is instead handled by partners.
Editor’s Note
I don’t know about you guys, but to me, the WWE Network has been a massive failure for the company. While I do enjoy it, it remains to be seen if the network will pay dividends for the company. It also seems weird that such originals like “The Monday Night War,” which I have been most looking forward to, have yet to debut.
