As we recently reported, Vince McMahon and WWE were able to renew Rey Mysterio’s contract with the company for one more year. Mysterio’s current hand injury was part of the reason why such a renewal was able to occur. Although there was no option that WWE could pick up on his contract, the company was still able to renew it because its contracts can be frozen in the event of an injury, where in the case of a Mysterio, an injury was present.
Now, in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, things get even more interesting. The newsletter is reporting that there is much more to the situation than just a renewed contract. In fact, a legal situation may very well follow suit. A month ago when WWE renewed the contract, Mysterio was looking to leave the company.
As of this writing, Mysterio is still listed as an injured talent. Within the company, there is no word on when he may be back.
Rey Mysterio has been out of action since his appearance at WrestleMania XXX in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Mysterio was eliminated by the eventual winner, Cesaro.
Editor’s Note
Wow, possible legal action to be had here? I can kind of see both sides of the table here. Though, it appears WWE had every right to renew the contract of Mysterio due to his injury, in addition to his past success in bringing in merchandise sales.
