As noted today, on Thursday, May 15, WWE confirmed its new deal with NBCUniversal, meaning that both “Monday Night Raw” and “Smackdown” will remain on USA Network and SyFy respectively. Back when it was revealed that WWE’s contract with NBCUniversal was expiring, there were rumors that WWE was looking to take “Smackdown” live.
Shortly before the deal between WWE and NBCUniversal was officially announced, arguably one of the greatest mind’s ever in the professional wrestling industry, Jim Ross, speculated that “Smackdown” will eventually go live on Tuesday nights on SyFy.
Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) tweeted the following regarding the show possibly airing live:

In the past, WWE has aired some editions of “Smackdown” live on Tuesday nights. In January of 2013, WWE aired a special showing of the program live, in celebration of its 700th episode. Additionally, back in 2012, WWE aired five editions of the program live, titled “SuperSmackdown LIVE!”
Editor’s Note
I really hope that WWE does make “Smackdown” live at some point down the road. However, if the company does go down this route, it will likely take a lot more effort and work, possibly meaning the product would suffer. Though, as a fan, I would love the decision to be made, as I would be able to watch “Smackdown” much more often.
