Thursday, Aug. 14, will be the last time “Impact Wrestling” airs on Spike during Thursday nights. The same day of its final show on Thursday, TNA announced that starting Wednesday, Aug. 20, “Impact Wrestling” will air on Spike on Wednesdays from 9 p.m. EST to 11 p.m. EST
Below are TNA President Dixie Carter’s words on the announcement:
“Moving IMPACT WRESTLING to Wednesday nights gives existing fans and new viewers an opportunity to enjoy both wrestling and live sports even more throughout the week.”
Despite the new time slot, no new deal between TNA and Spike was announced. Last month, reports surfaced that Spike would be canceling “Impact Wrestling,” effective October, when the deal between the two sides expires. Since then, both Spike and TNA have claimed negotiations are ongoing. Additionally, the real reason behind a possible cancellation is that Spike reportedly wanted 10 percent ownership of TNA. However, Dixie Carter and other higher-ups would not give in.
Coincidentally, the move comes just a week after rumors began to swirl about “Smackdown” moving to Thursday nights. The rumors began when a WWE production truck, advertising “Smackdown” on Thursday nights, was spotted. It appears the rumors may have legs, as Adam “Edge” Copeland’s “Haven” will be moved to Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST, in order to accomadate “Smackdown” and its new time slot.
