On Thursday, Aug. 7, WWE announced that it has released Alberto Del Rio. The announcement came within the evening of Thursday, in the form of a brief post on WWE.com. Del Rio was not released due to ongoing budget cuts and talent releases.

Instead, according to WWE, he was released due to “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.” Other than that, WWE has not released any other information at this time.

In WWE, Alberto Del Rio was a four-time world champion. He held both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship twice in his WWE career. Additionally, he won the Royal Rumble match in 2011, a 40-man bout, and a Money in the Bank Ladder match that same year.

Coincidentally, just more than a week ago, Alberto Del Rio’s long-time manager Ricardo Rodriguez was released. Unlike Del Rio’s, Rodriguez’s departure appeared to be mutual. WWE and Rodriguez decided to come to terms on a release, and Rodriguez made it known he would prefer to be a wrestler.

During his career in WWE, Del Rio has been no stranger to altercations inside our outside of the squared circle. Almost a year ago, in August, Del Rio was one of the key figures in a brawl at an Irish pub.  Then WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre had to help out his fellow WWE co-worker in the scuffle. Additionally, Del Rio reportedly had a long-lasting beef with Mistico, the original Sin Cara.

Back in February of 2014, there were rumblings that Del Rio was ready to depart from the company. He made it known within WWE, that upon his contract expiring, he would be leaving.

Editor’s Note

WOW, Alberto Del Rio released. This is definitely something no one would have seen coming. I wonder what he did to get himself canned. The original Sin Cara is no longer around for Del Rio to get pissed at. You also have to wonder if Del Rio and “RicRod” reunite on the independent circuit.
