As we have reported over WrestleMania week, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has been very vocal regarding the situation between CM Punk and WWE. Austin has remained adamant that Punk will return tomorrow, Sunday, April 6, at WrestleMania XXX. Additionally, Austin has stated that he could get the most out of Punk, if a match were to occur.
Wrestlezone.com is now reporting that an angle has been pitched to Punk and Austin for WrestleMania XXX. In its report, the website notes that the angle would likely be based around the ending. The show would presumably close with Austin giving Punk a “Stone Cold Stunner.” This would all lead to a match between the two at WrestleMania 31.
While it has been confirmed that Austin will be at WrestleMania XXX, no such thing has been confirmed for CM Punk. In fact, Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline recently reported that Punk was in Illinois on Friday, April 4.
Editor’s Note
Austin’s recent openness about the CM Punk situation certainly had the thought of the two working a match somewhere down the road creeping into my mind. However, I still doubted that such a match would ever occur. If the reports are true, it will be interesting to see if Punk and/or Austin would agree to such an angle.
I’m not surprised that WWE may already give Punk what he wants, a WrestleMania main event. In my column regarding his departure, I talked about how Punk went about business in a correct manner by walking out on WWE, if he does indeed want a WrestleMania main event. Now, it appears that it will be up to Punk to either stand his ground or undergo one last run.
