So, what’s next for AJ Styles if he loses the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to John Cena at the Royal Rumble? What happens if he doesn’t regain it at the Elimination Chamber show in two weeks? Who will he face at WrestleMania 33? Well, we may have the answer to all those questions.
According to Cageside Seats, WWE is working on setting up an angle between AJ and Shane McMahon, which will culminate in a match at WrestleMania 33. Yes, AJ Styles will be in the ring with the SmackDown commissioner on April 2.
“WWE is still working toward AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon for WrestleMania 33, which is why Styles was complaining about things like his placement on the Royal Rumble poster during SmackDown and on Talking Smack this week.”
Prior to Goldberg’s return, WWE was planning on doing a Shane McMahon vs. Brock Lesnar match at WrestleMania, which is why Brock F-5’d the SmackDown commish at SummerSlam. But, plans have changed, and Lesnar will be wrestling Goldberg again on WWE’s grandest stage.

Vince McMahon considers his son to be a huge draw – after all, last year’s WrestleMania was pretty much built around the Shane vs. Undertaker match, and the event ended up doing quite well. So it’s no surprise that he wants to see his son wrestle again on this year’s card, and it’ll be hard for him to have a bad match with the man who’s arguably the best wrestler on the entire planet right now.
