Throughout John Cena’s decade long run as WWE’s top babyface, the one question that’s constantly been asked is: will Cena ever turn heel? For years, the answer to that question always looked like it was going to be no. But now, the former fifteen time world champ is working a lighter schedule with WWE, as it looks like he’s beginning to transition into being a movie/television star.

There’s a ton of reasons why WWE was always against Cena heel, but now that he’s a part timer, are they more willing to let him showcase a darker, and more viscous side of himself? We won’t know the answer to that question until he returns on December 27, but if it were up to former WWE play-by-play man Jim Ross, the man who has been WWE’s top star for the last decade will go full heel in 2017.

On a recent edition of his podcast — The Ross Report — JR said that he would like to see a John Cena vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania 33, and that he would like for Cena to turn heel during the match.

“I think Cena vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania has fascinating potential. So, here’s what you got at WrestleMania 33: you’ve got The Undertaker defending the WWE title against John Cena, and I’m thinking Cena is gonna turn heel, and screw The Undertaker in his last match.”

Ross’ scenario is based on the rumor that The Undertaker will retire following WrestleMania 33. It’s also based on another rumor, which is that The Undertaker is going to face, and defeat AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Now that Cena isn’t a full time guy, it’s the perfect time to turn him. Also, if WWE does do the title vs. career stipulation for his rumored match against The Undertaker, and he ends up defeating The Deadman, thus ending his career, he’ll be the most hated man in wrestling. So, it would be a huge mistake for WWE to keep him as a babyface.

Last year, Cena appeared on Chris Jericho’s podcast — Talk is Jericho — and he said that he would be open to being a heel if he was presented with the right scenario. In fact, he said that he was planning to turn heel during his feud with The Rock, but the plan ended up getting nixed.

The question now is: will WWE turn Cena when he comes back? He is on SmackDown, and it’s quite clear that they view the blue brand as the “B-show.” So, will they be willing to do something as massive as a John Cena heel turn on their secondary show? Let’s hope so!
