Kenny Omega is officially a free agent, and he hasn’t publicly announced who he’s planning to sign with. All we now for now is that he’s the hottest free agent in all of wrestling, and that he’s examining all of his options.
In recent weeks, there’s been a ton of speculation surrounding Omega and the possibility of him being in this Sunday’s Royal Rumble match. As previously mentioned, he’s not under contract to anyone right now, so in theory, he could show up at the Alamodome on Sunday. But, there’s one thing that may prevent him from doing so.
Omega is scheduled to make an appearance in Chile on January 28, which is the night before the Royal Rumble, and according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Chile appearance may prevent the former New Japan star from being in the Rumble.
“As far as Kenny Omega goes, Kenny Omega is in Chile the day before. It’s not impossible to get from Chile to San Antonio in a day, but my gut feeling is that if he was gonna be working the Royal Rumble, he’s not going to be taking a booking in Chile. He’s given an indication that [his New Japan contract] expired before January 31, and that he’s a free agent today. I had heard January 31, but that was months ago. My gut as far as that goes is a no because why would you go to Chile the day before if you’re gonna debut in the Royal Rumble?”
