Both Jeff and Matt Hardy are currently in a lawsuit with TNA/Impact Wrestling, as their former employer wants a percentage of their income going forward if they use the “broken” gimmick. Basically, TNA believes that they helped create the gimmick, and, because it debuted on their show, they feel like they’re, at the very least, partial owners.
The question now is: will the lawsuit prevent the Hardys from returning to WWE at WrestleMania? Well, on Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer tackled that very issue.
“There’s no reason that they wouldn’t. It’s possible, they could do a run in. You could do a run in at WrestleMania. It’s possible, it’s just whatever WWE wants. The legal stuff, yeah, it could hold up [their return] if they don’t get a settlement. But yeah, I don’t know when they’re starting.”
On Wednesday, Cageside Seats reported that the Hardys and Impact Wrestling aren’t anywhere close to a settlement.
Opinion: WWE can bring in the Hardys whenever they want. Their impending return doesn’t revolve around whether or not they can use the “broken” gimmick. Of course, the fans love the gimmick, but if they don’t return with it, the fans will still be happy to see them. On top of that, if they bring them in as the regular old Hardys, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to go to the “broken” gimmick later if Impact Wrestling doesn’t get what they want out of the lawsuit.
