Following his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29, The Rock’s next opponent was going to be Brock Lesnar. In fact, WWE was going to start the build to the match one year in advance, as it was the original WrestleMania 30 main event. But, The Rock ended up getting hurt in his match against Cena, so WWE wasn’t able to begin the build to Brock vs. Rock part 2.
On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why we might not ever see the rematch between The Beast and The People’s Champion.
“The Rock is doing too many movies, and the movie studios do not want him doing long matches. He can go in there and do what he did last year. I’m gonna say [the chances] are not good. They were gonna main event WrestleMania a couple years back. They were gonna shoot the angle but Rock got hurt in the match with Cena, so they didn’t shoot the angle and he went home, and then things happened, and they didn’t do the match that year. I think that he was unable to do it. The studios do not want him doing serious wrestling matches. What he did last year was as much as he could do. And he’s got all kinds of projects going on. When he got hurt before the Hercules movie and they had to delay the movie, it was not anything that people were happy about. It cost a lot of money to a lot of people, so I would say I don’t expect it.”
Even though it hasn’t officially been announced yet, The Rock is scheduled to appear at this Sunday’s WrestleMania 33. As for what he’ll be doing, well, that hasn’t gotten out yet. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.
