This year’s Royal Rumble is set to have its fair share of surprises, which is something that we’ve grown accustomed to over the last decade plus. However, the biggest difference this year is that some of the biggest names in the industry are rumored to be debuting on WWE’s main roster on January 29.

One of the aforementioned rumored names is former NXT Champion Samoa Joe, who has spent the better part of the last two years down in WWE’s developmental system, despite the fact that he was clearly ready for the main roster when he arrived in the promotion.

According to Cageside Seats, Samoa Joe will be one of the surprise entrants in the Royal Rumble match. Also, according to Sky Bet, the former TNA star is one of the favored entrants.

Samoa Joe was recently taken out of the NXT Championship picture after two straight losses to the current champ Shinsuke Nakamura, and he hasn’t been seen on NXT television in quite a while. So it’s not surprising to hear that he’ll make his main roster debut at the Royal Rumble.
