We’re now officially on the road to the 2017 Royal Rumble, as WWE had their final pay-per-view this past Sunday night. There are a few things we already know about the event: Charlotte will defend the Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks, and Roman Reigns will once again challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship, with Owens’ buddy, Chris Jericho, above the ring in a shark cage.
The one thing we don’t know, however, is who will win the Royal Rumble match. Sure, we have a few ideas. But, it’s not like in recent years where we pretty much already knew who was going to win the 30-man match several months in advance.
So, who will win the 2017 Royal Rumble? Well, we may have learned the answer on Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
During the show’s Q&A segment, Dave Meltzer asked if WWE will have Braun Strowman win the Royal Rumble, and challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33. Meltzer responded by saying the following:
“If Roman Reigns wins the Universal Championship, it’s possible that [Braun Strowman] will win [the Royal Rumble]. Yeah, it is possible.”
Meltzer originally reported earlier this month that Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman could be the plan for WrestleMania 33. So, believe it or not, we could see Reigns vs. Strowman for the Universal Championship at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

Booking a Reigns vs. Strowman match is classic Vince McMahon booking, where he puts a top babyface against an unstoppable heel giant, and has the babyface go over. Of course, the fans haven’t been treating Reigns like a babyface for the last two years, so this is likely the WWE chairman’s latest plan to get the current US Champion cheered, and it probably won’t work.
Do you think Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns is a bad idea? Or do you think the fans will finally get behind Reigns if he feuds with Strowman? Let us know in the comments below, and make sure to visit our official Facebook page for all the latest WWE news!
