WWE fans haven’t exactly warmed up to the idea of Roman Reigns being the top guy in the company over the last couple of years. But apparently that’s just given the number one contender for the Universal Championship all the motivation he needs to get better at his craft.

During a recent appearance on the Cheap Heat podcast, Reigns talked about how being booed has changed him as a performer, and this coming Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

“I think [being booed] just pushed me. Anytime as a performer and you’re in a live situation, and you’re dealing with that sort of backlash, it’s gonna trigger emotions. But I think that anybody who is dedicated and wants to get better at their craft and wants to be the very best in the business, they’re gonna use that as motivation, and that’s what I did. I took that moment, which some people would look at as a negative, but not me. I mean, at the end of the day, x-amount of thousands of people are screaming, booing at the top of their lungs, and I’m the center of attention. So I must be doing something right.

“When it comes to the Royal Rumble, nobody Royal Rumbles like me. I got the elimination record, I’ve been in the finals a couple times, I’ve won the whole thing, so they better kick me out of it this year. If I’m a WWE superstar, the last name I wanna hear coming into the Royal Rumble is Roman Reigns. No doubt.”

Roman Reigns is scheduled to challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at this Sunday’s Royal Rumble, so he could very well walk out of the Alamodome as WWE’s top man once again.
