Last week, WWE announced their first inductee into this year’s Hall of Fame, none other than Kurt Angle. The announcement surprised most people, as Angle had been on the outs with WWE for over a decade. But he’s back now, and he could be on his way to San Antonio, Texas for the Royal Rumble on January 29.
Cageside Seats recently reported that WWE is discussing a Kurt Angle in-ring return via the Royal Rumble. Essentially, Angle would appear as a surprise entrant in the match.
Angle was scheduled to appear on an independent show in Scotland, which is taking place on the same weekend as the Royal Rumble. But, it’s been reported that our Olympic Hero has been pulled from the show, which has increased speculation that he’ll be a part of this Sunday’s pay-per-view.
On Monday, Dave Metlzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter spoke about Angle possibly appearing in the Royal Rumble match.
“[WWE] pulled Kurt Angle from the Five Star show in Scotland this coming Friday. That may or may not be a sign that he’s coming to San Antonio for the Royal Rumble because they just pulled him from the show. It hasn’t even been announced yet, but that happened. He’s not doing the show. He’s not going. The thing is, if he was gonna do something in San Antonio for the Rumble — an appearance, be a surprise entrant — you could say that given they pulled him. But they were gonna pull him from that anyway, whether he’s gonna be in San Antonio or not. So I don’t know that that’s necessarily a sign.”
